Participatory Action Research

Program description

As a knowledge-generating institution, MPC believes research is paramount for sustainable development. Research provides a basis for peace and development efforts in Mindanao. In particular, MPC employs a Participatory Approach in all its research projects. Participatory action research is an approach in which people collaboratively engage using their own experience. The PAR enables communities to analyze the realities that affect them and utilize such information to improve their condition. The PAR is the most suitable approach to studying the social issues of Mindanao because apart from exploring problems in communities, it is also a tool for fostering sustained learning and sustaining solutions over time through partnerships among at-risk communities, government institutions, and other actors. The Mindanao Peoples Caucus has conducted several participatory action research that helped create durable solutions in communities. MPC’s most notable and recent studies using PAR were the Rapid Midterm Review, research on conflict dynamics in BARMM, and study on the climate change, conflict, and displacement nexus in the Bangsamoro region.
