Moro-IP Kinship

June 12, 2011

Program description

On June 12, 2011, in Cagayan de Oro City, members of the MILF Peace Panel and Indigenous Peoples leaders agreed to conduct a ceremony on strengthening the Moro-IP Kinship. This covenant of peace was sanctified through a “Traditional Peace Pact” or “tradisyonal nga kasabotan sa kalinaw”. The Moro and IPs reached an agreement through a dialogue spearheaded by the Mindanao Peoples Caucus (MPC) involving the IPs in the province of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, and Iligan City, and members of the MILF Peace Panel in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City. The Lumad (IPs) expressed their stance in reverence of the traditional agreement in delineating the Moro and IP territories through the sacred ritual called Tampudaho Balagon. The Moro-IP Kinship is a significant ceremony to keep the Traditional Peace Pact alive and robust among the IPs and Moro in Mindanao, which centers on the doctrine of kinship. This ceremony is held every October in line with the IP Month Celebration in the Philippines.
